Utah Crew wins two silver medals at the San Diego Fall Classic Regatta

A successful close to the Fall Season

Salt Lake City, 11 November 2019.

Utah Crew returns with two silver medals racing against Southwestern crews at the final race of the season, the San Diego Fall Classic.  Utah was second in the Boys Junior Quad in a field of 12 crews, some from as far away as Oregon and Washington State.  The crew was composed of Daniel Carlebach, a junior at Rowland Hall; Wilson Bielaczyc, a junior at East High School; Aleksandar Jovanovic-Hacon, a senior at West High School; and Bruno Stehlik, a junior at The Waterford School.  The Utah girls novice coxed four also took silver amongst seven boats. The crew was composed of coxswain Lydia May, a freshman at West High School; Samantha Paisley, a junior at Rowland Hall; Mia Morrison, an 8th grader at Centennial Jr. High; Addie Parker, sophomore at West High School; Shira Bauman, freshman at Skyline High School.

The girl’s junior quad would have won a gold medal but was assessed a penalty to missing a buoy on the course.  Similarly, the boys double was also assessed a penalty without which they would have taken a bronze medal.  The difficulty in maneuvering for the blind boats has been brought to the attention of the regatta organizers.
